Wider is wiser, isn't it, Scott? Actually, what I meant is something others have observed as well: brilliant new ideas usually come from young people, but useful syntheses of knowledge from older ones. I have the feeling that as I slow down and forget my analytic geometry, I'm at least partly compensated by having more of a grip on the big picture. Now I understand what "youth is wasted on the young" means.
