HCG as a diet aid

Postby Salem » Wed Oct 20, 2010 2:37 am

So some diet woo on a website called Babycenter.com is saying that she lost a whole bunch of weight using something called HCG. She cited her anecdotal experience and some quack diet website; I cited double-blind studies. I would not have even bothered with her except she told someone that trying this "supplement" was a good idea. At that point I decided facts were needed.

Diet woos kind of piss me off. At best, what they want you to do is nothing better than a placebo. At worst the product or diet they are pushing is harmful or potentially lethal to one's health.

I am reminded of Kevin Trudeau who pushed the HCG diet a few years ago and in fact made false claims about it--yes, heavens to Betsy, Trudeau made false claims about something! Amazing, I know. Anyway, he got in trouble for it and a judgment of tens of millions of dollars was ordered against him for this fraud. The science indicates that HCG is worthless. I said my piece on the matter on the website in question and will say no more, and will not look at that thread again. Those who want to learn will follow my links. Those who will not may stay willfully ignorant if they so choose. "You can lead a horse to water" and all that.
