I watched the Video until one minute and thirty seconds. I'm setting here with tears streaming down my face. How the fuck could anyone do this?

We hear about people beating their kids but I have never in my life actually witnessed this in any form. I think this video, or even the description of the video puts a face on these senseless acts.

It reminds me of the post Comfort did awhile back about the woman who had her daughter taken from her because she beat the two year old until she had red raised welts on her buttocks. Update here. The good judge says it's not as bad as it looks and that he's apologized. He's now getting death threats and even his daughter says he needs professional help and not hatred.

The very least he needs is time out- fired from his job, and a nice cool jail cell where he can mull things over.

"Mulling things over" for this bastard will only result in his becoming more firmly convinced that he was right all along: Right to beat his child, right to force his child's mother to beat the child, right to hold the job he holds and right to believe his Gawd ordered and ordained and sanctioned the whole damned thing.

But if he is obliged to perform these mental acrobatics in solitary confinement, that would be fine by me.

BTW: I watched the whole thing. The mother was the big attraction (?) for me. I know the daughter claims her mother was forced into it by her father; still, I can't help wondering what mother could EVER do such things to her child. My late mother had an Irish temper and she never could manage more than a swat across the knuckles, no matter how much we annoyed her.

My daughter (works in human dev.) stated that his problem is very serious, but in his present state of mind there is no way that he can understand what he has done wrong. He got away with it so long it was self validating.

I noticed in the video that the daughter refused to turn over at the father's command and that infuriated him almost as much as her original crime. I don't know if she was deliberately provoking him or not. The instinct to maintain some control and dignity in a situation like that is strong. I would imagine the punishment would have been a lot shorter and milder if she had submitted. That is no excuse, the father was totally in the wrong.

What I find interesting and disturbing is the number of people who defend their parents for spanking/beating. First, this wasn't discipline. It was a grown man out of control. The foul language alone would have been abusive. Second of all, the concept that beating another person is acceptable behavior is crazy. It is illegal to assault another person. Whether or not that person is related to you should not be a mitigating factor. It seems that people who have been beaten as children are often supportive of the practice. Strange.
