I am Blessed.

A place to talk about specific theists and our interactions with 'em. Should we engage or dismiss? Are there effective strategies?

I am Blessed.

I figured if this was going to cover a few blog posts that She could get her own topic.

I'm listening and reading. I just don't have much to say about it.

There have certainly been other occasions where the science community has labeled concepts as preposterous, and the expositors as cranks, and has lived to eat their words.

In this case, however, there does seem to be a preponderance of evidence to refute the polonium boys and their halos.

*sigh* yeah it does feel like that.

My main angle here is the idea that I don't need to step outside of christian apologetics to debunk Young Earth Creationism, I don't her to be able to bring up the 'You're just a bunch of God Hating, Baby Eating Atheists'. I mean, sure that's true and all, but it's irrelevant to the RATE discussion.

Technically only half true, since there's no god to be hated.

Her ideas are hairbrained at best. She thinks radiometric dating shows old ages for rocks is because of "accelerated decay."

Here's the best part though. The reason she thinks accelerated decay didn't vaporize the surface of the Earth is because the universe was expanding at an increased rate..-_-

Total logic and understanding of physics fail.

Another, more in-depth article by Gary Loechelt, the scientist who debunks RATE's young-Earth helium diffusion claims, is well worth reading, not only for a thorough explanation of where the science goes wrong, but for a revealing look at the underhanded tactics used by creationists: submission of misleading abstracts to gain publication in real (i.e. peer reviewed) journals, tuning the theory to the results, and not allowing criticism within their own forums.
