So, Did Everybody Disable Java?

Postby E-lad » Sat Jan 12, 2013 7:57 pm

I just did because when I looked at the Javascript console I had a bout 20 of these:

"Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL http://www.slashgear.com/turn-off-java- ... -12265037/ from frame with URL http://ad.slashgear.com/serv/www/delive ... UMBER_HERE. Domains, protocols and ports must match."

I have no clue what that means. Anyone?

Javascript and Java are two different things. Javascript runs scripts in your browser that allows websites to do a lot of cool things like play games and have neat effects. Java is... ermm... a lot more complicated, but you can use it to play Minecraft. :)

Javascript is by far the most common language that your browser uses to run code provided by the websites you visit on the internet. The error messages you posted above are caused by a website violating the same origin policy. It is really nothing to worry about.

As Ninja says, Java and Javascript are two different animals. The reason the names are similar is because the syntax of the language is similar. Disabling Java from running in the browser will not stop the error messages you reported above.

Thanks! I found out after disabling Java that it runs on over half the sites I frequent.
