To be fair I think that depends upon the religion but, basically I fear I must agree and that's sad. Though I agree with the guy who said that it's more the fault of the men than of the religions.

Read the bible, its starts at genesis where women are created as afterthought , right through, passage after passage where women are treated as mens property, right on through to revelations where we read about "whore of babylon" and men are "defiled" by women....
